Job Description:

Perform all duties and responsibilities within the guidelines of the company's Vision, Mission, Quality Policy and Environmental Management Statements. Duties and responsibilities are guided by well-defined, repeatable processes that are the key to meeting customer expectations and must be followed or changed as defined in company guidelines.

  • Understand, promote and communicate company Corporate Objectives and Values throughout the organization
  • Use the actions listed below to accomplish company's continuous improvement process:
    • Utilize procedures to prevent product, service, and process non-conformances
    • Identify and record any problems
    • Find solutions to problems through prescribed problem-solving methods
    • Effectively implement solutions for problems
    • Control the use of non-conforming product / service / process
    • Monitor and improve respective measurables
    • Ensure that environmental issues are managed according to legal requirements, the environmental policy, the environmental management system procedures and good management practices
    • Maintain an awareness of significant environmental impacts, actual or potential, of work activities
    • Maintain an awareness of environmental benefits of improved environmental performance and continual improvement
    • Maintain an awareness of objectives and targets pertaining to work and the importance of achieving the objectives and targets
    • Understand both the Communication Procedure and the Emergency Preparedness and Response Procedure
      Principal Responsibilities
      • Establish vision and strategy for the laboratory including plans that support corporate strategy, budgeting, staffing, technology development, and capital investment
      • Manage the laboratory project mix, ensuring a balanced approach to current and future business needs
      • Drive innovation in all areas of the lab, and encourage innovation throughout the organization
      • Collaborate and coordinate with Sales and Marketing to maintain a connection to the voice of the customer
      • Translate the customers' expectations into innovative and profitable products
      • Develop relationships with suppliers, customers, and other key partners to improve technology understanding, build partnerships, and seek joint development opportunities
      • Initiate the development and improvement of processes and procedures to meet ISO and business expectations
      • Perform departmental human resources functions in hiring and evaluating employees, and implementing disciplinary actions
      • Communicate and train employees on requirements and responsibilities to support the processes; establish and maintain employee training matrix
      • Oversee quality control and support for operations
      • Establish documented, repeatable processes which ensure the QC and R&D departments meet and exceed departmental goals and customer expectations
      • Understand company Production System and how it effects duties and responsibilities of position and department

        Technical Qualifications
        • BS in Chemistry or related science field required; Master's degree preferred
        • 15+ years of laboratory experience with organic compounds, paints, and solvents
        • 10+ years of experience managing an industrial QC or R&D laboratory
        • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage all aspects of a laboratory
        • Highly creative and motivated to uncover problems and develop valuable solutions
        • Experience with experimental design and data analysis
        • Proficient with computer programs including Microsoft Office
        • Robust verbal and written communication skills
        • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative approach
        • Familiar with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 17025
        • Experience developing budgets, policies, and procedures that support the functional infrastructure
        • Demonstrated leadership skills including project/department leadership, mentoring, technical and inter-personal problem resolution, work planning and allocation
        • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
