Shift- 8:00a - 4:30p M-FGENERAL SUMMARY:Under minimal direction, performs data abstraction and entry, review, and analysis on trauma patient's specific to Quality Improvement. - Provides consultative support to the operating units, medical staff, and service lines leaders, as appropriate, utilizing clinical data and clinical best practices to improve clinical outcomes. - Supports quality improvement process implementation, working collaboratively with stakeholders to improve patient care outcomes. Provides support to the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director, including but not limited to data entry, database maintenance and support, graphing, control charts, pivot tables, and meeting preparation and follow-up.   • Collects, analyzes, evaluates, and displays data from clinical information and the trauma registry database based on the guidelines from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to support the objectives of the performance improvement process.
  • Identifies all trauma activations, admissions, transfers, and deaths, using clinical identifiers and strict inclusion/exclusion criteria as defined by the American College of Surgeons. - Able to identify all injuries, procedures, complications, and outcomes.
  • Provides clinical and performance improvement subject matter expertise to departments, medical staff, and clinical operations. -
  • Conducts ongoing research of best practices for quality and performance improvement for specified patient populations.
  • Makes recommendations to the medical staff on appropriate next steps and suggested clinical indicators for departmental improvement plans based on internal and external data as well as current literature.
  • Actively participates and facilitates best practices to drive improved outcomes based on population performance both internally and externally.
  • Retrieves and compiles data through data download from trauma data sources including other hospital databases and patient logs.
  • Develops and promotes staff education re: quality and safety initiatives.
  • Review's trauma patients' clinical records across the continuum of care, including EMS reports, police reports, (if available), the Emergency Department, Surgery, and inpatient records, and applies appropriate Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS-90) scores and validates ICD-10 diagnostic codes, operative codes, and E-codes.
  • Management of all components of the Trauma Registry and trauma informatics, including clinical case review, data retrieval and collection, data download and entry from other database sources, data cleaning, statistics, validation, analysis, and presentation of data both internally and externally.
  • Teaches injury prevention programs as needed to be responsive to the needs of the community and trauma.

  • Education / Training: - - - - - - Bachelor degree required. Master's degree in nursing, business or healthcare field preferred.
  • Work Experience:Requires a minimum of three years of recent nursing experience in the emergency department, critical care, or surgical services with increasing responsibility and interest in trauma care. Teaching or training program experience desired. - Quality/Performance improvement experience preferred. - Data collection experience preferred comfortable with Microsoft Office. - -
  • Certification, Licensure, Registration: Requires a current and unrestricted Registered Nurse License in the State of Michigan. - Requires completion of American Trauma Society's Trauma Registrar Course, AIS course and the ICD-10 coding course or within 6 months of hire. - Requires TNCC/ENPC provider.
  • Other Qualifications: - Requires flexible hours when needed and the ability to travel for meetings, conferences and/or classes. - Requires the ability to maintain knowledge of current trauma trends and developments. - Requires a high degree of demonstrated analytical skills to organize, record, and abstract data from computer systems and patient charts to maintain trauma registry and produce various reports. - Requires computer and internet experience including demonstrated familiarity with Windows and MS Office software programs. - Requires the ability to research, compile, create and analyze a variety of statistical data reports. - Requires a high level of interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with children, adults, and colleagues to the trauma program. - Requires the ability to effectively present highly technical information to a diverse audience.WORKING CONDITIONS:A. Physical Effort: --- StrengthPosition requires ability to frequently push/pull up to 30 lb. objects with assist of others, occasional requires ability to lift objects more than 50 lbs. with others, constantly lift objects up to 20 lbs. Position requires incumbent to frequently perform moderately difficult manipulative skills such as positioning patients. --- CoordinationPosition requires incumbent to constantly perform gross body coordination such as walking. Frequently perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as assisting patients to eat, collections of specimens for transport to lab and tasks which require arm-hand steadiness such as taking patients temps and pulses. --- MobilityPositions requires incumbent to constantly walk and stand; occasionally sit for prolonged periods, frequently bend such as when caring for a patient in bed. --- Visual DiscriminationPositions requires incumbent to constantly see objects far away as in driving and see close objects such as reading thermometers. --- HearingPositions requires incumbent to constantly be able to hear normal sound with some background noise as in answering phone/intercom. Frequently be able to distinguish sound as in equipment alarms.B. Work Environment: --- Employee may be frequently exposed to electro-magnetic radiations as in VDTs.
