*** $2000.00 SIGN ON BONUS ***COMPETITIVE WAGES, NO CALL NO WEEKENDS AND NO HOLIDAYSGENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:As a Surgical technologists, also called scrubs and surgical or operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. Surgical technologists are members of operating room teams, which most commonly include surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses.Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, this position acts as first assistant is surgery, for those procedures, which the RNFA is qualified and approved, in the immediate presence and direction of an approved supervising physician.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Before an operation, surgical technologists help prepares the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
  • Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures.
  • Performs pre-operation preparations to the patients skin, body and medical equipment.
  • Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as adjust and check it to ensure it is working properly.
  • Get patients ready for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites.
  • Transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with sterile surgical "drapes."
  • Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.
  • Hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. Help prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and help apply dressings.
  • Operate sterilizers, lights, or suction machines, and help operate diagnostic equipment.
  • After an operation, help transfer patients to the recovery room and clean and restock the operating room.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during an operation, assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, holding open incisions, stopping bleeding, closing the incision, among other technical tasks.
  • Surgical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Positioning the patient for surgery and aiding with draping, clearing the area where the surgeon will operate and holding open incisions by using tissue retractors, sponges, or operating suction or irrigation equipment, selecting and passing instruments and supplies during an operation, stopping bleeding by sponging, clamping, tying, or cauterizing vessels, or suturing tissue layers as directed by the surgeon, applying dressings to surgical wounds, counting sponges, needles, and other materials before and after the operation, closing the incision at the end of the procedure.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
    • A graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program - REQUIRED
    • Orthopedic Experience Preferred
    • Must be certified to perform CPR with 0-2 years of clinical experience in a related field
    • Completion of an approved RN First Assistant Training Program
    • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of California
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a perioperative nurse
    • ACLS certification from American Heart Associationrequired
