Job Description:
As the largest not-for-profit health care system serving

outpatient sites that provide diverse practice settings located in
communities throughout southeastern Michigan and the greater
Detroit metropolitan area. $1,500 sign on bonus available for full
time roles, $750 sign on bonus for part time. GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of phlebotomy management, performs diverse
support functions including phlebotomy to ensure accurate test
results and a quick turnaround time. Positions supporting Patient
Service Centers and client offices are required to provide
phlebotomy services to these locations as determined by department
needs and may be assigned to different locations and/or different
schedules without a 30-day notice. This position reports to the
Phlebotomy Services Coordinator, or the Manager Laboratory, or the
Laboratory Supervisor, or the Director Lab Operations. ESSENTIAL
DUTIES: 1. Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures to obtain
adequate samples. Is responsible for correct patient
identification, specimen labeling and documentation. Demonstrates
knowledge and ability to evaluate and select proper collection
methods for age specific patients. 2. Supports activities related
to laboratory testing (phlebotomy, specimen collection, computer
order entry and specimen processing) to ensure accurate result
reporting and quick turn-around time. 3. Performs processing
functions related to testing including verification, accessioning,
aliquoting, processing and batching send out testing,
adding/cancelling tests, distributing, storing and disposing of
specimens. 4. Performs registration duties applicable to the
site/location of assignment. Computer based registration and order
entry duties require prior training provided by the applicable
department. 5. Adheres to Compliance policies as related to job
duties to include presenting Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) of
non-coverage prior to delivery of outpatient services. 6. Performs
observational competency of all support staff under the guidance of
the phlebotomy leadership using established criteria. 7. Oversees
and schedules training of new employees, provides current employees
with in-service education on new policy and procedures; may act as
a shift leader. Works well without direct supervision. 8. Maintains
department equipment and inventory to ensure proper supplies are
available. 9. Participates in: Q.I./process improvements, data
collection, QC documentation, and/or CAP surveys as applicable to
the assigned department. Patient and Family-Centered Care culture.
Staff activities of a High Reliability Organization (HRO).
Friend-at-Work program and assists in training new hires as
applicable/assigned. Staff meetings and committee meetings as
assigned. 10. Cost effectiveness: Efficient use of time in
completing tasks accurately and timely. Mindful of appropriate use
of laboratory funds through purchase requests and the observance of
wasteful use of supplies. This document represents the major

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an

to perform the essential duties. A. Education / Training: A minimum
of a High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Medical
Assistant or Phlebotomy Course and phlebotomy externship required.
Completion of a phlebotomy training program required. The
achievement of 50 draws within previous roles will be considered in
lieu of a completed training program. B. Work Experience: A minimum
of 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist required, one year
preferred. C. Certification, Licensure, Registration: Phlebotomy or
Medical Assistant Certification preferred. D. Other Qualifications:
Positions supporting Patient Service Centers and client practices
require reliable transportation, a valid Michigan Driver's License
and good driving record in accordance with Corporate Policy.
Employees are required to immediately notify manager of any traffic
violations incurred. WORKING CONDITIONS: A. Physical Effort:
Occasional physical activities requiring ability to push/pull
objects of up to 40 pounds, lift objects up 10 pounds; occasionally
lift objects up to 30 pounds. Perform motor skills such as walking,
standing, perform manipulative skills such as repetitive arm use,
and preparation of specimens for analysis and operation of
laboratory equipment Performing tasks, which require eye-hand
coordination such as analysis of specimens, and performing tasks,
which require arm-hand steadiness such as cleaning, calibration and
operation of instrumentation and equipment Perform mobility skills
such as standing to sitting and remaining in positions for
prolonged periods, perform stooping along with manual dexterity and
coordination functions Ability to see objects far away as in
locating exits, see objects closely as in reading thermometers,
product labels and instrument readouts Ability to hear normal
sounds such as equipment operating and being able to hear pages,
telephone conversations, etc. Distinguish sound as in responding to
timers and/or audible alarms Ability to concentrate on fine details
with frequent interruptions Ability to attend to task/functions
constantly for periods up to 60 minutes in length and to attend to
task/functions for periods exceeding 60 minutes in length Ability
to understand and relate to specific ideas, concepts, and theories
Ability to remember tasks and/or assignment over short or long
periods, work schedules or job assignments B. Work Environment:

fluctuations in temperatures, high or low humidity, dust, loud or
