GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for the management of all components of the Trauma
Registry and trauma informatics, including clinical case review,
data retrieval and collection, statistics, analysis, and
presentation both internally and externally. Must be comfortable
with both interpretation of clinical care and advanced computing
and database administration. Also serves to promote injury
prevention and trauma education in a variety of ways such as
teaching classes, conducting safety fairs and screenings, and
representing Beaumont Health at community events.

1. Identify all trauma activations, admissions, transfers, and
deaths, using clinical identifiers and strict inclusion/exclusion
criteria as defined by the American College of Surgeons.
2. Manage the Trauma Registry database by direct abstraction of
clinical information based on National Trauma Data Standards
(NTDS), including the identification of all injuries, procedures,
comorbidities, complications and outcomes.
3. Review clinical records across the continuum of care, including
EMS reports, police reports, (if available), the Emergency
Department, Surgery, and inpatient records, and apply appropriate
Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) scores, International Classification
of Diseases (ICD) diagnostic codes, operative codes, and
E-codes.
4. Identify performance improvement events and resolve or escalate
as appropriate, with guidance from the Trauma Program Manager.
5. Maintain registry software and coordinate required data
submissions (NTDB, MDHHS, TQIP, MTQIP).
6. Analyze benchmark reports and assist with performance
improvement plans.
7. Utilize registry data to synthesize routine and ad hoc reports
to support research, performance improvement and injury prevention
initiatives and track effectiveness of implemented programs.
8. Develop and/or participate in injury prevention programs as
dictated by the needs of the community and trauma program.
9. Maintain accurate records of events, programs, meetings, and
evaluations.
10. Represent facility and actively participates in local and
statewide registrar and injury prevention committees.
11. Maintain knowledge of current trauma trends and
developments.
12. Perform routine clerical duties such as maintaining and
creating meeting minutes, copying, sorting, logging data, and other
tasks as necessary.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed
below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability
required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable

A. Education / Training: Associate degree in Nursing required,
Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Trauma Registrar courses
required within six months of hire (American Trauma Society
Registrar Course and Association of the Advancement of Automotive
Medicine Injury Scaling Course), and TNCC provider status within
one year of hire. Must maintain eight hours of registry-specific
continuing education annually.
B. Work Experience: Two years of recent nursing experience in the
emergency department, critical care, or surgical services with
increasing responsibility and interest in trauma care. Teaching or
training program experience desired. Computer and Internet
experience including comfort with the Windows and MS Office
programs and the ability to manage and manipulate a large
database.
C. Certification, Licensure, Registration: Current active and
unrestricted Michigan RN Licensure.
D. Other Qualifications: Quality Improvement and data collection
experience preferred. Must be able to organize, record, and
abstract data from computer systems and patient charts to maintain
trauma registry and produce various reports. Must possess
interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with
children, adults, and colleagues to promote injury prevention and
the trauma program. Must be familiar with all hardware used within
the Hospital, i.e., work stations and printers, audio-visual
equipment, and medical equipment associated with area of
education.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
A. Physical Effort: Mental/visual stress related viewing of
computer screens and printed material for prolonged periods.
Prolonged periods of sitting. The job involves some walking and
light lifting.
B. Work Environment: Work is generally performed in a normal office
environment with minimal exposure to noise, heat, dust, etc. May be
required to work at off-hours, weekends, or longer than average
hours at times. May have work in a variety of settings inclusive of
retail, schools, offices or manufacturing.
