The Department invites applications from highly motivated
individuals who can complement the mission, expertise and current
strengths of the department. Under minimal supervision of the
division chief/chair or medical director of research, and with a
high degree of autonomy, the Research Scientist works as a team
leader and co-investigator to lead research aspects of the
department. Research Scientist will design, collaborate, plan,
perform data analysis and prepare reports. The Research Scientist
is responsible for both technical and administrative management of
department specific research programs including compliance with
federal and organizational policies and requirements. The Research
Scientist - Laboratory will also perform laboratory procedures and
carry through an independent research program. The Research

The candidate will be expected to develop/maintain a nationally
recognized research program. All areas of research specialization
will be considered, but preference will be given to those that are
complimentary to existing strengths, and there is a special
interest in omics technologies and biomarker research. The

coordination of data generation and analysis, and acquisition and

aspects of protocol implementation. Will work with assigned
Clinical Research Manager for research staff needs.
Review current literature in relevant fields. Critically
evaluate research data and prepare research results for publication
in refereed journals and presentations at scientific meetings.
Seek grant support for new and/or continuing research
activities, including identification of funding sources, grant
development and preparation, managing of awarded grants.
Participate and/or lead routine departmental research meetings;
serve on research committees as delegated.
Provide research methodology training to research fellows,
postdocs, residents, technicians, and students.
- Perform related departmental/divisional duties as
- PhD degree in related research arena and minimum of two years
related postdoctoral research experience. The Research Scientist -
Clinical requires a PhD degree in Population Health Sciences,
Epidemiology or other clinically arena (e.g., Nursing) and a
minimum of two years related postdoctoral clinical research
- 5 years relevant research training and/or experience.
- Experience working with graduate students and/or medical
students, evidence of authorship and successful grant submissions.
Research Scientist - Laboratory must have strong laboratory and
animal-handling skills; basic understanding of statistics;
experience with specialized techniques and procedures used in
research specific department; strong written and oral communication
skills. Research Scientist - Clinical must have relevant clinical
research experience, basic understanding of statistics, experience
designing clinical research protocols, strong written and oral
- Seeking applicants for a position at any rank, but particular
consideration will be given to tenured candidates at the Associate
Professor level or higher in Alzheimer's or related dementia
research. Academic placements will be within the medical school
(Oakland University-William Beaumont School of Medicine).

demonstrate experience with federal funding as evidenced through
