The certified surgical assistant is an individual, other than a
physician, who assists the surgeon in the performance of approved
surgical procedures, and who works under the direct supervision of

Education / Training:
High school diploma required. Possess Surgical Technologist
Certification (CST) as offered by the Association of Surgical
Technologists. Completion of an accredited Surgical Tech First
Assistant Program and shall achieve Surgical Tech First Assistant
Certification (CSTFA) within two years of completing first
Two years surgical assisting experience.
Certification, Licensure, Registration:
BLS certification required.
