Job Description:

Detroit metropolitan area. GENERAL SUMMARY:This is a full time
afternoon shift position in the BRL Processing Lab at the Royal Oak
campusProcessing of specimens received in various Labs. May have
equipment maintenance and quality control duties. May handle
hazardous chemicals. May perform some data entry, answering phones,
inventory, and filing. Duties may include responsibilities specific
to assigned department and may vary dependent on assigned
site/departmentESSENTIAL DUTIES: Processing specimens: As
appropriate for each lab, this may include responsibilities of a
Lab Assistant I, plus setting up some cultures, waived testing,
reporting results.Equipment maintenance, quality control
responsibilities, ordering and maintaining correct chemical levels.
This may include the responsibilities of a Lab Assistant I, plus
more complex responsibilities.Communicates with healthcare
personnel outside of department with regard to reports,
clarification of requests, other problems related to specimens,
requests, and testing delaysClerical functions to maintain required
records, files, and reports pertinent to the functions of a lab.
Registration data entry, test order entry, chart review,
statistical logs, filing slides, etc. Retrieve incomplete work
logsInventory, order and receive supplies, rotate
stock.Participates in:Patient and Family-Centered Care
cultureQ.I./process improvements, data collection, QC
documentation, and/or CAP surveys as applicable to the assigned
department. Staff activities of a High Reliability Organization
(HRO)Staff meetings and committee meetings as assignedAssists in
training new hires as applicable/assignedCost effectiveness:
Efficient use of time in completing tasks accurately and timely.
Mindful of appropriate use of laboratory funds through purchase
requests and the observance of wasteful use of supplies.Other

equivalent required. Recommend online education tutorials in
introductory Laboratory topics. Work Experience: Minimum 6 months
laboratory/Laboratory Assistant I experience. Certification,
Licensure, Registration:None. Other Qualifications:
Computer/keyboard skills. Familiarity with Medical Terminology and
medical processes. Experience as a Laboratory Assistant I
recommended if appropriate to assigned department.WORKING
CONDITIONS: Physical Effort: Frequent walking between various
hospital areas to deliver specimens. Long periods of standing while
at various workstations. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds. Work
Environment: Works in a laboratory and is exposed to a variety of
reagents, toxins, fumes, odors and infections agents.Potential risk
of an exposure to hazardous medications or waste materials of
