Job Description:
The Royal Oak is a Grade II listed public house on Newport Road
in the Adamsdown /Roath area of Cardiff, Wales.
A large pub in the triangle of Broadway with a number of rooms and
a reasonable sized garden
The pub dates from the late 19th century. In the early part of the
20th century it was run by a cousin of the boxer, Jim Driscoll, who
on his death bequeathed his Lonsdale Belt to the pub. The pub
developed a boxing theme, with memorabilia on the walls and,
unusually, a professional boxing gym above the function room.
In the 1980s the Royal Oak had a vibrant rock and punk music
scene.
In 2010 the Royal Oak was the only Cardiff pub to make it onto list
of the Top 100 Famous UK pubs, compiled by whisky maker Famous
Grouse.
TRADING AREA AND PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION
Entering from the side door you can turn right into the main bar
area which has a full length bar to the left hand side leading to
the front doors. Large windows and boxing memorabilia fills the
room. -
Cross to the other side and there is the snug, a cosy room with
more memorabilia. Head towards the back and there is a little area
with one table and access to the bar. -
Further down and you reach a crossroads - left leads you back to
the side door and the function room where community groups meet and
live bands play. To the right leads you to the toilets, office and
kitchen area. Straight ahead and you are out into the garden which
is mainly laid to lawn with a large brick wall at the far end. A
fantastic sun trap that attracts the locals in the Summer. -
Private accommodation: Upstairs in the private accommodation are 3
double bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and large living room. The old
gym makes a large storage room.
LOCAL AREA AND CUSTOMER BASE
Broadway is in Roath a prosperous area of Cardiff. The postcode is
within the Adamsdown ward/electoral division. -
Most of the local housing is terraced housing that has been
converted into flats. - The Opportunity Let your big ideas for your

food sales! It's the chance to:
You'll need to put in a -5k deposit, plus legal fees and cover your
own insurance (except building insurance, which we'll pay for).
Also, you'll want to start thinking about your team; taking care of
paying them and all other employment matters. We're on-hand to
offer guidance as you plan your business overheads, like business
rates (and your own residential Council Tax). Also, start thinking
about any internal repairs and decoration you'd like to do to bring
the place up to standard and committing to an annual decorating
fund.
Before we all sign the agreement and see you heading into a whole
new life, you'll just need to show us proof that you've had
independent financial advice from an accountant and solicitor, as
dictated by the Statutory Pub Code. And, of course, obtain your
personal licence (which we'll help with) and complete your
induction training.
It's a five-year commitment, so you have loads of time to build the
business and get it performing brilliantly. Call
